Discover Eumundi Heritage and Visitor Centre Built in 1911 as the Methodist Church - it became the Uniting Church in 1972 when several denominations merged. Bought in 1995 by the Eumundi and District Historical Association - restored and converted into a museum. Memorial Trees Across the road from Discover Eumundi The 'Womens Patriotic Committee' planted these trees - mostly figs after the First World War. Each tree is attributed to the 20 local servicemen who lost their lives during this war. World War 2 Memorial Trees - inaugurated on Anzac Day 2007 South of the toilet block opposite the Post Office. CWA Hall Blue building - north along Memorial Drive Built originally in 1929 as Rest Rooms for railway travellers, the rooms were left unlocked so travellers could make themselves a cup of tea. This is the site of the original Eumundi Markets started in 1979. Canecutters Building Pink two storey building - north along Memorial Drive - on corner of Lonergan Lane. Moved from near the Maroochy River in 1983 - was the first musuem. The first Post Office was located at the front of this building. Eumundi Replica Railway Station Down Lonergan Lane into markets. The original station opened in 1891 and operated until 1988. The last passenger train ran in Jan 1987. The railway line was then diverted. The railway station and signal box burnt down in 1991. Rebuilt it is now incorporated into the Eumundi Markets and Town Square. Dick Caplick Park Walk north through the markets to find the park. Formerly Etheridge's Sawmill. Bullock teams turned around outside the sawmill, which explains why the road is so wide. The sawmill closed in 1938 and was finally developed as a park in 1970. Imperial Hotel Across from the Memorial Drive from Caplick Park. Built in 1911 but burnt to the ground in 1926. Rebuilt in 1927 to much of the original design. Berkelouws Book Barn South along Memorial Drive. George Adams, a wheelwright and blacksmith moved his business to this location in the 1930s to service the growing number of motor vehicles. Only recently stopped trading as a garage and petrol station it was then made into Eumundi Trading Post with a mixture of goods. The Old Bank Building South along Memorial Drive. Built in 1909 to be the Bank of NSW. Within a year of being built it was deemed unsuitable and the bank relocated further down the street. It has since housed a number of businesses including a pharmacy. Joe's Waterhole South along Memorial Drive. Originally known as the Railway Hotel. Renamed Eumundi Hotel in 1900, then the Commercial in 1908. Destroyed by fire in 1925, rebuilt in 1926, it survives today with many alterations. |
